Total Joint Replacement

Total Joint Replacement is a surgical procedure in which parts of an arthritic or damaged joint are removed and replaced with a metal, plastic or a prosthesis.

In a total joint replacement (also called arthroplasty), the damaged bone and cartilage is removed and replaced with prosthetic components.  Joints that are commonly replaced are hips, knees and shoulders.

If your knee or hip is severely damaged by arthritis or injury, it may be hard for you to perform simple activities, such as walking or climbing stairs. You may even begin to feel pain while you are sitting or lying down.

If nonsurgical treatments like medications and using walking supports are no longer helpful, you may want to consider total knee replacement surgery. Joint replacement surgery is a safe and effective procedure to relieve pain, correct leg deformity, and help you resume normal activities.   Please consult your orthopedic surgeon if a total joint replacement is right for you..
